Classic Caramel Layer Cake

The caramel frosting recipe is light, fluffy, and the perfect complement to the layers of basic buttermilk cake. The frosting is made from homemade caramel sauce, some of which is reserved to be drizzled over the final cake. Toasted pecans also top the final product for a wonderfully crunchy complement to the sweet cake and frosting.
