Bell peppers make a great addition to almost any recipe imaginable. Whether it is soups, casseroles, or salads, bell peppers add great flavor and nutrients to whatever you are eating. Learning how to cut a pepper is an essential kitchen skill for any cook, especially since peppers are frequently included as the base of Southern dishes. In fact, "the holy trinity" in Cajun cooking refers to the combination of onions, bell peppers, and celery. Once you learn how to cut peppers properly, you will want to include them in every dish you make.

If you are cutting a pepper up for chili, be sure to save some of the seeds to cook into it. That's where a lot of the spice hide.

If you want an easier way to core the pepper, just take the handle of your knife and hit the stem into the pepper. Usually you can pull the whole core out at one time. It makes it faster and must of the coring is done. Even this little short cut can save you time if you have a lot of peppers to do.
